two-sample t test

a type of t test in which the mean value on a variable obtained by one group is compared to the mean value obtained by another distinct group. In other words, two discrete experimental groups are evaluated against one another. By contrast, in the single-sample t test, the results of only one experimental group are compared to some standard of reference.
