two-by-two factorial design

two-by-two factorial design

an experimental design in which there are two independent variables each having two levels. When this design is depicted as a matrix, two rows represent one of the independent variables and two columns represent the other independent variable. Also called two-by-two design; two-way factorial design. See factorial design.
