truth bias

the tendency to assume, in the absence of evidence, that interaction partners are telling the truth. The truth bias arises because, more often than not, partners do tell the truth. Researchers believe that truth bias contributes to relationship success by minimizing suspiciousness, but makes it more difficult to detect deception in partners who are, in fact, lying.
