triple-code model of imagery

a theory to explain why imagery works in performance enhancement. It suggests three effects of imagery: (a) the image itself, an internal sensation that is representative of the outside world and its objects; (b) the somatic response, that is, the psychophysiological response to the image; and (c) the meaning of the image, which is unique to the individual.
