total lipodystrophy

a form of lipodystrophy, often congenital but occasionally acquired, that is characterized by the absence of adipose tissue in the subcutaneous tissues, perirenal area, epicardium, and mesentery. See also partial lipodystrophy.

tractotomy

n. the surgical interruption of a nerve tract in the brainstem or spinal cord. One form of tractotomy is of benefit in bipolar disorder that is resistant to other forms of treatment.
