tinnitus

n. noises in one or both ears, including ringing, buzzing, or clicking, due to acute ear problems, such as Ménière’s disease, disturbances in the receptor mechanism, side effects of drugs (especially tricyclic antidepressants), or epileptic aura. Occasionally, tinnitus is due to psychogenic factors (see sensory conversion symptoms).
