time-series analysis

a branch of statistics that involves the analysis of changes in a single variable recorded repeatedly over time. The data may have an internal structure (e.g., autocorrelation, trend, seasonal variation) that should be accounted for and that provides input allowing for the prediction of future values of the variable. Compare cross-sectional analysis.
