the skill of using a physical or cognitive cue to stop negative thoughts and redirect them to a neutral or positive orientation. This skill is taught in some behavior therapies, when the therapist shouts “Stop!” to interrupt a trend toward undesirable thoughts and trains clients to apply this technique to themselves.
