thermode

n. a device made of copper through which water can be circulated at a controlled temperature. A thermode can be implanted in an organ of a nonhuman animal in order to determine the effects of temperature changes on surrounding tissues. Much information about thermal receptors has been obtained in this manner.

reciprocal

n. the number that when multiplied by another number gives a result of 1. The reciprocal of x is therefore 1/x and that of 1/x is x. So, for example, 1/4 is the reciprocal of 4.
