relapse prevention

use of various procedures to reduce the risk of relapse of a condition, disease, or disorder. For example, clients or patients might be taught cognitive and behavioral skills before the termination of therapy. Relapse prevention has a particular role in disorders, such as addiction and depression, with high relapse rates. See also tertiary prevention.
