theophagy

n. literally, the eating of God. In most uses, the term refers to the symbolic consumption of the body or blood of a deity, as in the Christian eucharist, as a means of communing more fully with the divine. However, it can also refer to certain rites in which adherents attempt to absorb the attributes of a deity by consuming the body or blood of a slaughtered animal or human considered to be its representative.
