a loss of structure or function of a part of the thalamus, resulting in such effects as deficits in avoidance learning and other types of new learning. For example, experimental animals with a thalamic lesion take much longer to learn to avoid an electric shock. Effects vary somewhat with the part of the thalamus affected.
