testwise alpha level

in hypothesis testing, the significance level (i.e., the level of risk of a Type I error) selected for each individual test within a larger experiment. This is in contrast to experiment-wise alpha level, which sets the total risk of Type I error for the experiment. As more significance tests are conducted, the experiment-wise alpha level goes up, unless there is an adjustment to lower the testwise alpha level.
