Takayasu’s disease
a circulatory disorder involving arteries that carry blood from the aortic arch above the heart toward the brain. Occlusion of the innominate, left subclavian, and left carotid arteries results in a loss of pulses in the arms and neck, cramplike pain in the arms, and fainting spells due to cerebral ischemia. The disease seems to affect mainly young females. [Michishige Takayasu (1872–1938), Japanese physician]
