1. in general, any position holding that judgments of fact or value reflect individual states of mind rather than states of affairs that can be said to be true or false independent of individual interpretation. 2. in ethics, the proposition that the ideals, such as “the good,” to which ethical propositions refer are reflections of personal judgment rather than independent realities.
