subcutaneous injection

injection of a drug beneath the skin, often in the upper arm or thigh where there is an adequate layer of subcutaneous tissue. Although the subcutaneous route is used mainly to inject fluids, medications may also be administered subcutaneously in the form of slowly absorbed pellets. Also called hypodermic injection.
