1. a perceptual disorder characterized by the mirrorlike reversal of objects.

2. a reading difficulty characterized by a tendency to transpose or reverse letters while reading or writing (e.g., tap for pat or p for q). [defined in 1937 by U.S. psychiatrist Samuel Torrey Orton (1879–1948)]
