square matrix

a data array that has the same number of rows as columns. The number of rows and columns determines the order of the matrix (e.g., 3 rows by 3 columns is an order of 3), and any two square matrices of the same order can be added and multiplied. Square matrices are used in regression analysis, factor analysis, and other multivariate analytical techniques.
