spinothalamic tract

either of two ascending pathways for somatosensory impulses that travel through the spinal cord to the thalamus. They are part of the anterolateral system. The anterior spinothalamic tract serves touch and pressure sensations; the lateral spinothalamic tract carries principally pain and temperature information.
