any damage to the spinal cord caused by sudden or progressive external forces. Spinal cord injuries include contusion (bruising), hemorrhage, laceration, transection, and compression. See also incomplete spinal cord injury; radiculopathy; slipped disk.

a general term for any disorder involving one or more components of the respiratory system, such as the diaphragm, lungs, trachea, larynx, or nasal cavities. See also asthma; chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
