sophrosyne

n. an ideal of character recommended by Greek philosopher Plato (c. 427–c. 347 bce). The word has no direct English equivalent but is often translated as “temperance” or “moderation” and carries the sense of being well balanced, prudent, self-disciplined, and sound in judgment.
