simulation training

a technique in which trainees learn a complex or hazardous task by practicing with a replica of the task. This may involve the use of computer simulations, mechanical training aids, or plausible but fictitious scenarios (e.g., business games or case methods). For example, a medical student may practice inserting an intravenous line on a mannequin before doing so on a live patient, and factory workers may use virtual reality to practice operating a new piece of heavy machinery prior to using the actual equipment.

constant error

constant error

a systematic error in some particular direction. Constant error is computed as the average positive or negative difference between the observed and actual values along a dimension of interest. For example, if a weight of 1 kg is judged on average to be 1.5 kg, and a weight of 2 kg is judged to be 2.5 kg, the constant error is 500 g. See also absolute error; random error.
