adj. responding to, releasing, or otherwise involving serotonin. For example, a serotonergic neuron is one that employs serotonin as a neurotransmitter. In the brain, most serotonergic pathways originate in the raphe nucleus and project diffusely to other sites in the brain and to the spinal cord.
