seminiferous tubule

any of numerous minute, convoluted tubules in the lobules of the testis. The seminiferous tubules are lined with germ cells that give rise to spermatozoa (see spermatogenesis). They also contain Sertoli cells. Each lobule of a testis may contain one to several seminiferous tubules, and a single testis may contain as many as 400 lobules.
