scala vestibuli

one of the three canals within the cochlea in the inner ear. It is located above the scala media, from which it is separated by Reissner’s membrane, and contains perilymph. At its basal end is the oval window.

excitotoxic lesion

a lesion caused by paroxysmal overactivity of neurons, which may be associated with seizures or occur after stroke. This is most commonly caused by overstimulation of neurons by excitatory amino acids (see excitotoxicity).
