sawtooth waves

a series of pointed electrical waveforms recorded on an electroencephalogram just before the onset of rapid eye movements in phasic REM sleep. Sawtooth waves occur in bursts, with a frequency range of 1.5 to 5 Hz, and last an average of 7 seconds.
