rumor intensity formula

a model that attempts to explain why some rumors persist and intensify whereas others peter out. In short, the strength of a rumor is the arithmetical product of the significance of the subject matter and the level of uncertainty about available information. [proposed by Gordon W. Allport and Russian-born U.S. experimental psychologist Leo Postman (1918–2004)]
