n. the science of designing and constructing machines (automatons) capable of performing functions similar to those of humans. For example, personal assistance robots are under development for individuals with disabilities. See cybernetics.

n. an instrument with a positive-pole cathode and a negative-pole anode used to stimulate biological tissues electrically or record electrical activity in these tissues. Also called bipolar electrode. See also microelectrode.
