rhythm method

a technique of contraception in which a woman abstains from coitus during the days of her menstrual cycle that she is most likely to become pregnant, from just before until just after ovulation. The rhythm method is not very effective because of the difficulty in predicting the precise time of ovulation. Predictions are made by charting rectal or vaginal temperature changes daily or by testing changes in the sugar content of the cervical mucus.
