reversible dementia
deterioration or impairment of cognitive function in older adults that is caused by nonneurological conditions such as depression, drug or alcohol abuse, normal-pressure hydrocephalus, metabolic diseases such as hypothyroidism, and Addison’s disease, and vitamin B12 deficiency. Treatment of the underlying condition may bring only partial improvement to cognitive functioning, although improvement to full functioning may occur with early diagnosis and intervention. Sometimes also called pseudosenility.
