restatement

n. in psychotherapy and counseling, the verbatim repetition or rephrasing by the therapist or counselor of a client’s statement. The purpose is not only to confirm that the client’s remarks have been understood but also to provide a “mirror” in which the client can perceive his or her feelings and ideas more clearly (see mirroring).
