resampling

n. an analytic method in which a researcher repeatedly chooses subgroups of observations from a larger overall data set in order to estimate various characteristics of that larger set. The smaller subsets of observations may be drawn through random sampling with replacement or without replacement, with both strategies having implications for the different analytic approaches that may be used.
