representative design

an experimental design that includes processes and variables that might be found outside the laboratory setting. In representative designs, the participants, situations, constructs, and assessments are sampled in a way that permits generalization beyond the specific research setting, and background variables are intentionally not controlled so that research results will apply more realistically to the real world. See ecological validity.
