REM-sleep deprivation

an experimental sleep deprivation technique designed to study the effects of reduced REM sleep on activities that occur during this stage of sleep (e.g., REM dreaming; see dream deprivation) or on processes that are believed to be affected during this stage (e.g., neurogenesis, memory consolidation).
