1. the level at which a child is able to read successfully. It is a relative measure of skill, identified in terms of grade level. Also called reading level.

2. the potential ease with which a passage can be read and understood, based on factors such as legibility of the printed page, vocabulary, sentence length and structure, human interest, and general intelligibility.

n. an alpha-adrenergic blocking agent with direct action on heart and smooth muscle. It is a potent vasodilator used in the management of severe hypertension associated with catecholamine excess, as in patients with pheochromocytomas. It is in infrequent clinical use. U.S. trade name: Regitine.
