reactivity

n. the condition in which a participant being observed is changed in some way by the act of observation. Within an experimental setting, reactivity is viewed as a threat to internal validity because the change in behavior is not due to the experimental manipulation. See also reactive measure.

method of absolute judgment

a psychophysical procedure in which stimuli are presented in random order to a participant, whose task is to place each stimulus in a particular category. The stimuli usually vary along one or two dimensions, such as brightness or loudness. Also called absolute-judgment method.
