pseudoangina

n.

1. chest pain that resembles the pain (angina pectoris) of a heart attack but for which there is no clinical evidence of heart disease.

2. chest pain that resembles angina pectoris but originates from damage to the spinal roots in the neck (cervical) region. Compression of the root of the seventh cervical nerve by a prolapsed intervertebral disk (see slipped disk) is commonly identified as the cause. Also called cervical angina. See noncardiac chest pain.

pseudomemory

pseudomemory

n. a fake memory, such as a spurious recollection of events that never took place, as opposed to a memory that is merely inaccurate. Pseudomemory is a cause of particular concern when using hypnosis to help eyewitnesses retrieve memories (see hypermnesia). It was formerly called pseudomnesia. See also confabulation; false memory; recovered memory.
