n. the sense of body movement and position, resulting from stimulation of proprioceptors located in the muscles, tendons, and joints and of vestibular receptors in the labyrinth of the inner ear. Proprioception enables the body to determine its spatial orientation without visual clues and to maintain postural stability. Also called proprioceptive sense. —proprioceptive adj.
