prenatal stress

stress in a pregnant woman, marked by elevation of stress hormones and other biological changes, with an increased likelihood of intrauterine infection. Preterm births and low birth weight are common effects of maternal stress during pregnancy. Preterm infants are susceptible to a range of complications, including chronic lung disease. Some recent studies suggest that a baby’s temperament and neurobehavioral development can be influenced by the mother’s stress level during pregnancy.
