premorbid personality

1. personality traits that existed before a physical injury or other traumatic event or before the development of a disease or disorder.

2. personality strengths and weaknesses that predispose an individual to mental health and well-being or to a particular mental disorder (e.g., depression, schizophrenia) or that affect the speed or likelihood of recovery from a disorder. Also called primary personality.
