preganglionic autonomic neuron

preganglionic autonomic neuron

any neuron of the sympathetic nervous system whose cell body is located in the central nervous system and that sends its axon to a ganglion in the sympathetic chain. Here it may connect to a postganglionic autonomic neuron, which can innervate such organs as the kidneys.
