preference test

any measure used in research to determine an individual’s choice between two or more alternatives and what that choice might indicate behaviorally or affectively. An example might be a test in which an infant is required to choose between a toy with a smiling face and one with a frown in order to assess the child’s affect; another would be a marketing study in which consumers are asked to select between competing products, such as two or more soft drinks.
