postural control

the ability to control the position of one’s body. The first landmark in the development of postural control occurs at about 3 weeks of age, when a prone infant is first able to lift the head and raise the chin. Within a few weeks, further steps in postural control are achieved, such as holding the head erect and turning it and sitting with and then without support.
