postencephalitic amnesia

postencephalitic amnesia

a memory disorder that occurs in some patients who have recovered from viral encephalitis. The symptoms include a gross defect of recent memory and partial amnesia for events preceding the encephalitis; intelligence, however, is unimpaired.
