physiological response specificity

the principle that an individual’s physiological responses to a range of different stimuli will be of the same type. For example, one individual may tend to respond to many different stimuli with increases in heart rate, whereas another individual may respond to the same stimuli with breathing changes. [proposed by U.S. psychophysiologist John I. Lacey (1915–2004)]
