n. the observable characteristics of an individual, such as morphological or biochemical features and the presence or absence of a particular disease or condition. Phenotype is determined by the expression of the individual’s genotype coupled with the effects of environmental factors (e.g., nutritional status, climate). See also paratype. —phenotypic adj.
