the relationship between a person’s psychological and physical capacities and the demands placed on those capacities by the person’s social and physical environment. Quality of life is influenced by person–environment congruence: Too few or too many environmental demands can lead to poorer quality of life. See also environmental press–competence model.

an antipredator behavior in which each of several animals moves or vocalizes in a highly random way, making it difficult for predators to locate and attack any one individual. See also dilution effect.
