perinatal herpes-virus infection

a herpes simplex Type 2 infection that is transmitted from a pregnant woman to her fetus. The fetal infection may develop into a severe blood disorder and can also result in a fatal form of encephalitis. The complication is most likely to develop in late pregnancy. See herpes infection.
