paruresis

n. a fear of urinating, resulting in an inability to urinate where others may be present (e.g., in public rest rooms). Considered a social phobia, paruresis leads one to restrict social activities to avoid the possibility of having to use a rest room in a public venue. Also called avoidant paruresis; bashful bladder syndrome; shy bladder syndrome.
