n. an abnormal skin sensation, such as tingling, tickling, burning, itching, or pricking, in the absence of external stimulation. Paresthesia may be temporary, as in the “pins and needles” feeling experienced after having sat with one’s legs crossed too long, or chronic and due to such factors as neurological disorder or drug side effects. —paresthetic adj.
